Internet Data Center

Learning Tools deploys GoalView using the Application Service Provider model (ASP). The application and data reside on highly tuned and optimized server systems in the Learning Tools Data Center located at the Advanced Telecom Group Internet Facility in California. The Learning Tools Data Center provides effective security, monitoring, load balancing and scalability.

Learning Tools provides daily, weekly and monthly backups of files and databases. Mirrored disks for the District servers and RAID 5 for all data ensure data availability and maintenance of critical data. For additional backup, Learning Tools uses data replication to replicate the database contents each day to a mirrored data server in a separate off-site server facility.

GoalView is designed using proven Microsoft multi-tier and .NET technology. The architecture utilizes four distinct hardware and software tiers. The web server tier utilizes the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) running on a set of load balancing web servers. The application tier implements business rules on a set of load-balancing application servers and separate load balancing servers run reports. The database tier is a set of clustered servers running Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Microsoft clustering technologies provide automatic fail-over.

GoalView server hardware is standard off-the-shelf technology available from a wide variety of hardware vendors such as IBM, Dell, HP and Compaq. Servers can be upgraded at any time from these or other vendors supporting Microsoft technologies.

Learning Tools provides 24-hour monitoring services to protect confidential school district data and to maintain consistant information systems reliability.
